HD Hyundai Electric has started construction of a second manufacturing facility at its North American subsidiary, HD Hyundai Power Transformers USA, located in Montgomery, Alabama. The expansion aims to strengthen the company’s presence in the regional market for extra high voltage power transformers. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 6 and included company leadership, South Korean diplomatic representatives, Alabama state officials, and local government authorities involved in economic development and energy infrastructure.
The new plant will cover approximately 312,000 square feet and is scheduled for completion in April next year. HD Hyundai Electric plans to invest around $200 million in the project, which will expand transformer production capacity by about 50 percent and introduce manufacturing and testing capabilities for 765-kilovolt-class transformers used in large transmission systems. The expansion is expected to support modernization of the United States’ high-voltage transmission infrastructure while increasing annual revenue potential. The Montgomery facility, originally established in 2011, has grown into a major transformer manufacturing site in the country and currently employs around 460 workers. Following completion of the new facility, the company plans to recruit an additional 200 employees.
