Verra has issued a new methodology module to credit carbon capture and storage at natural gas processing facilities under its Verified Carbon Standard. The VMD0062 module enables developers to quantify and verify permanent storage of CO2 separated during gas processing that is often vented. It broadens Verra’s VM0049 framework beyond removals like direct air capture and BECCS, and applies to existing and planned facilities. The module was developed with financial support from BKV Corporation.
Why it matters:
Clear crediting rules for gas-processing CCS could affect project finance, integrity expectations, and how voluntary markets value monitored, permanent industrial emissions reductions.
